Would not recommend this host to others. Review text: To start off with I originally decided to host my website with emax a few years back. When I had a problem I could submit a ticket and within 1 hour I had a solution. This was great.
Through the few years I have referred and created other sites that host(ed) on emax. Everything was still good.
About a year and a half ago my former employer had issues with his web site that was hosted with emax. Caused a big uproar about emax and has since moved.
6 months ago or so 3 of my clients that I have using emax started experiencing lots of down times. Slow page loads and tons of errors. (Sites validated with WC3) So at the clients request we moved them to a new host. Errors went away and sites load very quickly now.
Then I started having issues with my site that had been working fine for almost 1 year. So I got the idea to try a new host as well.
Started my transfer on July 21, 2007 by submitting a ticket to the sales dept stating that I wished to transfer my domain and would not wish to continue my hosting account, to go ahead and cancel at the end of this cycle.
July 23 no response yet so I updated the ticket.
July 24 they transfered my ticket to the SALES department. (submitted to sales originally)
July 24 receive notice that management was changing around as an excuse for the delay. In my eyes customers should be before employees.
July 26 still no response that was worth a crap so I updated ticket again. All I needed was the EPP Key to transfer my domain.
July 27 Chris sends the EPP Key. I entered into new host to continue transfer.
Aug 1 domain still locked and new host awaiting release from emax. Noticed hosting has also been renewed and billed. Updated ticket once again.
Aug 2 Chris replies stating the account was never marked for transfer. Finally canceled the hosting account and states "We will refund the charge once the domain transfer is complete as this ticket will have to be forwarded to a different department." and that "I may have to initiate the transfer on my end". I did this on Day 1 when it asked me for the EPP Key.
Aug 3 Transfer completed new site on host is up and running.
Aug 6 Chris states "please open a new ticket on the refund and we'll get it taken care of!" after he stated before that he would transfer it and take care of it.
Aug 9 New ticket created to have hosting credited back to my credit card.
Aug 10 "Moving this to our administrative department to take care of this" stated Chris
Aug 16 Still no response or credit issued. So I decided enough was enough and called the 800 number. Press 2 for billing and reach the tech support team that "cannot be reached via telephone" they cannot transfer me to billing and do not have any phone numbers for other offices at emax and I must use the support tickets. Called back Pressed 2 again to make sure I pushed the correct button. Same this Support. Ok try again but Press 1 for sales. Sit on hold a few minutes to be connected with "Support". Try again using the dial extension by name option"8" type in "henry" for Chris Henry and goes immediately to voice mail.
I see this as trying to give someone the run around. A transfer should have taken approximately 3-5 days maximum. This one took 12 and I am still fighting for my refund.
When you call the 800 number it states "Superior hosting and support are our top priority". Where can I find that service at Emax.
In the beginning I would always tell people to go with Emax all the way. Now I warn others of Emax. This is not a way to treat your customers. I have already gotten 5 of my clients to transfer away from Emax, am working to start transferring the others. I also plan on contacting some of my other affiliates that also host with Emax and inform them of this situation. Maybe they will be smart as well and transfer.
As for the Affiliate program, I was part of it. Ran good for a bit. Suppose to have commissions deposited automatically every $20 in to my PayPal account. Reached $30+ and had to notify emax to receive my commission. Now no commissions have been posted to my account since Sept of 2006. These commissions are to be recurring on a monthly basis for hosting plans. I have emailed the affiliates department 20+ times throughout the time since Sept 2006 about this with no response.
So overall with Emax I ended up with a site that consistently crashed, an affiliate program that does not pay, poor customer service, and clients nagging me about their sites crashing due to emax.
Take this how you will but do your research and it may be a wise decision to pay the extra $1 for "superior hosting and support" some place else.
